Question Where's the MIDI?

I'm missing something basic.
I have opened and instance of Satellite in ProTools.
How do I drive my Satellite soundblock from my ProTools tempo?
In your soundblock demo's, is there a MIDI track driving the samples? If so, where does it reside? Can I copy it to my DAW so it will drive the SampleBase samples?
Help

Hi there,

The SoundBlock is retriggered by a MIDI loop "on" (inside Satellite) that essentially restarts the loop. If you are changing tempo while the loop is playing, it will wait until the loops comes back around to the beginning before locking to the tempo you have set in your DAW. For tempo lock to work, TimeStretching must be enabled. The user manual explains how to turn this parameter on or off. Satellite should automatically lock up with the tempo in ProTools.

Best,

Question Re: Where's the MIDI?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your response. Can you please elaborate. I purchased a "complete song". Is the MIDI that drove the demo resident somehow in Satellite? How can I edit the MIDI files? My plan was to begin with the MIDI rendition of the demo, then edit the original MIDI to produce my end result. Is this possible?

Given these are loops and not multi-samples, you cannot manipulate the MIDI as it sounds like you desire to. The only thing you can do is trigger parts and layer them. Does this make sense?

Hi Mike,
When you say "trigger" I'm assuming you mean that I would create MIDI triggers in my DAW. Is that correct? Does this mean that if I wanted to "play" the demo (as presented) I would have to re-create the sequence of MIDI triggers in my DAW from scratch? Sounds like a lot of unecessary work. Why not supply the demo MIDI as part of the song?

The idea is to have a variety of loops at your disposal to come up with your own combinations/arrangements. It sounds to me like perhaps you are looking more for pre-made/pre-arranged songs which is not what we designed the SoundBlocks or Satellite for. We designed it for flexibility, still allowing for creativity. We've never considered supplying MIDI files for triggering the loops due to the fact that sometimes we use more than one instance of Satellite to produce the demos.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your patience. MIDI Edit-able pre-arranged (REX like) songs is what I'm looking for. But they must be of the highest quality loops. As near as I can tell, no one is making them. I think you guys are missing a huge opportunity

The trouble with REX loops is that you really cannot use recycle on all types of loops. It is best for drum loops, arpeggios, or notes played staccato. Anything with transients gets brutally murdered in REX format. THAT is why nobody has done it. What you need is a transparent time stretch algorithm. I think we're getting closer to that, as it requires a lot of processor power to accomplish. Until then, we do what we can.

Best,
