The Internet has been called a number of things over the past few years. To some it is a wonderful source of information and data and for others it is an evil that is threatening to destroy the copyright laws that have been held dear for decades. Most people have heard of the legal repercussions of downloading movies, music and even games from the Internet at no cost and there has been no end to the amount of trouble and money it has cost both companies and individuals. Barely two decades ago people who worked in the music business would take forever to find the right sound for their mixes. If you download a sample from the Internet that belongs to someone without paying for - whether you knew about it or not - and you use that sample in a mix that makes you money then you could be in serious trouble. There are some sites where people upload their own samples and make them available for free and if the sounds belong to them then they are well within their rights to do so. In the end it falls to the user to make sure that the samples are legal since the provider often could not care less. Then again, you could just pay for the legal ones and ignore all the hassles to begin with.

Quality is often the difference between the two and it is up to the individual to decide which way they want to go. The Internet is a great source of many things but like most other things in the world it has to be used responsibly.
